Smart Valve:

This season SAMWA will install eight new smart valves at problematic locations on Eagle, Meadow and Homestead. The plan: install a test batch of remotely controllable valves and evaluate performance.

 

Brief History: As the water system ages the increase in water leaks have become a concern winter and summer seasons. Locating valves in deep snow, digging for hours, is taking a toll on volunteers. Summer leaks are proving as much or more worrisome now as water levels continue to fluctuate as much or more than in the winter. Winter season leaks usually are narrowed to one location per incident, where as summer leaks accumulate from multiple sources, dripping faucets or toilets.
